My philosophy regarding yoga is that it should be accessible to everybody. Every pose can be adapted, students will find their own expression of poses that challenge them without strain. I believe in careful transitions that encourage body awareness. I want to help my students find balance and peace. I believe this will lead to a calm, centered approach not only in the class but in life. Music is integral to my classes. I love to research and create the right playlist that will establish the tone of the class. I select specific songs designed to inspire, motivate or enable introspection. I have additional training in adapted and restorative yoga.
The adult classes I teach are beginner to intermediate Hatha with elements of Kundalini yoga. The focus of the practice is on self-care. I believe yoga helps us in many ways beyond the physical experience on the mat.
Through self-awareness, we make connections regarding our thought patterns and habits. We notice how we respond to challenges and relaxation. Yoga can improve our lives by helping us make subtle changes within ourselves.
My classes are 60 minutes long and begin with a pranayama/breath exercise followed by a spine warm-up and grounding. The sequence of the asana/poses will be connected to the teachings of Hatha yoga. We move through the poses gently, emphasizing ahimsa, which means no harm. I like to create an environment where we can ask questions, ask for clarity and offer feedback. Alternative options are explored to allow for everybody to find a comfortable pose. I believe yoga is best when it is challenging physically or mentally but comfortable.
Using the breath to connect to movement will allow our internal thoughts to slow down and unwind. Each class is followed by Savasana/relaxation with a meditation or poem reading.

What will I need?
Yoga mat
Yoga mats range in thickness from 2mm to 6mm. The thicker mat will provide extra cushioning for joints in some poses, however, they can inhibit grounding as they add movement when in balancing poses and you may find you have to step onto the floor to balance. The thinner 2mm mats are lightweight and good for traveling but offer less comfort on joints and relaxation. As a starting point, the 4mm mat can provide comfort for your joints and the grounding required for balance. The 4mm is a good all-round mat for this particular yoga practice but please consult with a health practitioner if you have particular needs.
Blanket ( optional).
A blanket is an excellent additional prop as they are versatile. It can be used as padding for knees and elbows, rolled as a bolster, used as a cushion for seated meditation, or as a cover for relaxation.
Bottle of water.
Props
Yoga blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets are provided for the class. I like to offer these props during the class as we are all different, and the props allow us to access the benefits of the pose without strain.
Knee pads
Long foam knee pads and individual knee pads are available at class. Poses directly on the knees can be uncomfortable. If you have any sensitivity or pain in your knees using a pad or a folded blanket is recommended. Students also have the option to purchase knee pads from various retailers. They range in price from Dollar stores $ to yoga suppliers $$$
